Sounds to me something to do with the cams. maybe the timing of the engine is out of whack and the internals are whacking each other which hopefully it isn't. Im no expert so I wouldn't fully think this is the issue just an assumption with issues with Dual vvti. The timing chain, chain tensioners, rocker arms, valve springs, vvti cams gears, etc
